Aeldman is the official language of The Serene Duchy of Aeldrum.
Diplomatic Use[]
Historically, Aeldman was a preferred trade language (along with Shantine) but often avoided in diplomatic usage for its association with the politics of the powerful Serene Duchy of Aeldrum. Prior to the mid-5th century A.U., Vedlys was often preferred as an alternative for diplomatic language. However, the severe decline of Saldan's international status during and after the Resurrection Crisis made Vedlys highly unpopular within the Shantine Empire and Fialta Imperium. With Shantine even more politically tainted than Aeldman due to the expansionism of the Shantine Empire under Theoboda Kataph, and with Fialta having a limited regional distribution, Aeldman began to assume a more neutral quality and is now commonly preferred as a lingua franca, especially in Celestial Space.
Origins and Influences[]
Aeldman is derived from the language of the Elvish Exiles who settled in the Aeldrum Spire around 1000 B.U.[?] and is hence a linguistic cousin of Enclave Elvish, and the two are considered fairly mutually intelligible: the two languages are closer to each other than they are to the Shantaran or Mirror Enclave dialects and are further still from Becois or the countless local languages spoken by unaffiliated elvish communities in the wider cosmos.
Aeldman has also had a significant linguistic influence on Outremer, the language of the defunct Margravate of Tarim and the secondary language of the New Celestial Confederation. The Outremer dialect uses an enormous range of Aeldman loan words as well as some grammatical constructions regarding ownership and group membership that are mostly absent from the Celestial language group.
